The face of the character is built with quotes from the series. It's done in Adobe Illustrator. In the bottom left I added the silhouette of the spaceship Firefly. 

In the poster I used the color scheme of Browncoats (Red, brown, yellow) and a background with rustic look because of the style from the series (Western in Outer Space).
